Seriously.

The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live: a live thing, a story.

What is this journal?

I decided to create this journal for two main purposes: The first being a journal in which I could post book reviews. And the second reason is much more abstract, in that I wanted a place where I could discuss books in not a negative or positive way (though I'm sure my reviews will have such feelings), but rather wondering and discussing why what we read is the way it is.

If feel you interested in either of these endeavors, then please friend me. This is not my personal journal, and will be only be used in the ways described above.

A bit about me...

I am 22 and on the verge of receiving my BA in English. After a brief respite in the form of a semester off of school, I plan on going to graduate school for a MS in Library Sciences and Digital Services.

I've loved to read since I can remember being alive and nothing has changed in that time. Books are my first true love and I don't think anything can ever change that. I also write when I have the free time, energy and inclination.

What I enjoy reading...

I'll read pretty much any Romance novel, and the genre has no effect on my enjoyment. Historical, Contemporary, Paranormal, whatever, I'm there.

I tend to read a broad range of what is classified as "fiction," though what I read normally has some romantic elements. I also tend to stray towards what some might call "fantasy." Vampires, werewolves, witches, demons, shamans, and all that good stuff is always interesting in my opinion.

I'll also ocasionally find myself reading Science Fiction, but I believe I usually read books that are close to straying into other genres and have gotten slapped with a SciFi label because they aren't quite sure where else it should be.

Another love of mine is Poetry. While I don't read as much I'd like to, I find that I'm VERY discriminating and what I like, well, usually isn't that popular amongst others.

While this normally comes up because of my degree, I still often enjoy reading "Classics." You know, the stuff our world's history is made of--Austen, Fitzgerald, Wilde, etc.

A few areas I dabble in are Young Adult/Teen, and graphic novels/manga. No, not comic books.

What I normally DON'T enjoy reading usually falls under Mystery or Western or Fiction that isn't rife with emotional conflict and character development. Sounds like most novels should have this, but as we all know, it just don't happen every time.

And lastly, a quick warning...

I find myself to be very open-minded, so I will often read novels that may make some people uncomfortable. I often read novels in which relationships are not always heterosexual. Also, as I tend to read a lot of romance novels, the books I discuss will frequently contain sexual situations. I will make sure to label and forewarn others by noting this on my entries.
